ECL Chelmsford Learning Disabilities Day Centre (Highfields)
Our Essex day centres provide flexible, personalised support for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. Each centre is unique, but all are welcoming spaces where people are valued for who they are. We take time to get to know each person, their interests, goals, and what brings them joy—so their experience is fun, supportive, and fulfilling. Activities include arts and crafts, music, cooking, community trips, and independent living skills. We help people build confidence, make friends, learn new skills, and take positive steps towards independence.
We can support people at every level, including those requiring 1:1 or 2:1 care. Every individual has a personalised plan, created in partnership with families, carers, and professionals. These focus on personal goals including gaining independence, developing skills, enjoying new experiences, or simply having fun.
We are an accredited ASDAN training provider giving access to nationally recognised qualifications. We can support you to attend college or other adult education providers. Our Community Connectors and Inclusive Employment teams are on hand to help those wishing to gain voluntary or paid work.
Our well trained staff are able to support customers with specific needs including epilepsy, diabetes, dysphagia, and those requiring medication management. They are supported by an in-house clinical team offering speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and positive behaviour support.
We use innovative tools to enhance communication, learning, and independence through interactive screens, sensory mats, AAC devices and Alexa.
Our centre is fully accessible, with facilities designed for people in wheelchairs or with limited mobility, as well as tailored spaces for those with sensory needs.

There is a charge for this service. Funding may be available from Essex County Council subject to eligibility.
