Hamelin: Ability Works Employment Service

Ability Works is a free employability programme in Rochford supporting autistic adults and people with learning disabilities to build confidence and develop skills for work. The programme offers practical workshops, one-to-one support, and opportunities for work experience in a calm, supportive environment. Participants can also work towards a nationally recognised ASDAN qualification. As well as the main programme, we offer weekly drop-in sessions to ask questions, get advice and talk through your next steps around work or volunteering.

Ability Works runs for up to six months from a calm and welcoming site designed to reduce sensory overwhelm and create a supportive learning environment. Participants typically attend two days per week, following a consistent routine. Support includes practical employability workshops, one-to-one mentoring, CV writing, interview preparation and opportunities to take part in supported work experience. 

In addition we offer weekly drop-in sessions in Basildon, Braintree and Chelmsford offer flexible support, advice and guidance for those exploring their next steps.

Who can use this service?

Ability Works is open to autistic adults and people with learning disabilities across Essex. A formal diagnosis is not required to access the service.

How are services delivered?

The main programme is delivered in person from the Sutton Road site in Rochford, with additional weekly drop-in sessions in Basildon, Braintree and Chelmsford.
